GETTING IN SHAPE FOR SPRING? DON’T FORGET YOUR HAIR Warmer months are fast approaching and many of you are heading to the gym to improve your healthy appearance and looks. Crucial to radiating zest and energy lies with the health and fitness of your hair. Issues surrounding damaged or thinning hair and hair care products strike a common theme in the beauty industry on follicle robustness. Concern for the health and fitness of your hair, according to Jie, is a fundamental service of good hairdressing. Jie discusses healthy hair and shares some tips on good hair fitness. Says Matar, “Hair is a living and breathing organ requiring careful evaluation and management. Like other body parts, hair responds negatively or positively to the environment and lifestyle choices. Humidity, pollution, stress, food, alcohol, medications, colour, blow-drying and texturizing are all influential elements that effect healthy hair. Like a good workout regimen at the gym your hair requires a fitness plan as well. It starts with taking an inventory of your lifestyle, environment, routines and goals and setting a balanced plan of action to meet those goals. Plan to health, health to plan is a motto I follow with all my clients. Hair is always a work in progress. The internet, bookstores, friends, strangers and the beauty industry all provide resources for you to have intelligent and healthy hair.” Jie tips for good hair health and fitness
  • Find the right hairdresser you are comfortable with and you can trust. A fitness instructor and a doctor are trained in the basic elements of body and organ health as a hairdresser is trained in the basic elements of healthy hair. Your hairdresser should be aware of your lifestyle, hair type and tastes and should train you to be aware of styles, treatments and home maintenance. If you’re not happy with the service, find another hairdresser whom better meets your needs. If you’re having difficulty finding a hairdresser-ask a friend or even a stranger with healthy hair.
  • Don’t allow cookie cutter trends to dominate your hairstyle. Your style should reflect your hair type, bone structure and lifestyle. There is definitely examples of bad cuts that can ruin the health of your hair.
  • Establish regular salon appointments every three to four weeks to keep up to date with cuts, colour and treatments.
  • Establish a daily routine of care with shampooing and conditioning. Moisture, vitamins, and minerals are especially important for hair undergoing regular blow-drying and colour. Natural salon products are the best although drug store products will do. Check the bottles carefully for the right balance of natural ingredients.
  • Ask you hairdresser or colour technician about intensive protein treatments, leave in conditioners and scalp treatments.
  • Try not to overexpose your hair to chemicals or too much sun. Chemicals and the sun break and dry the hair.
  • Remember Keep it simple and balanced

A VISIT TO YOUR HAIRDRESSER MAY BE THE KEY TO KICK STARTING YOUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS. Are you lacking the motivation to kick-start your New Years resolutions? The answer to building your confidence may lie with your hairdresser. In an industry that understands change and confidence, January provides beauty specialists with an opportunity to make a difference. Most hairdressers know that a change in hairstyle or a subtle change in hair colour may be the confidence booster needed to set and achieve yearly goals. With the right professional, your January makeover may be as important as a trip to the therapist. As President and Creative Director of Canada’s leading beauty destination, Jie Matar has built his leading status on his ability to deliver hair therapy and makeover artistry. January is a busy month at JIE as clients book their makeovers. Jie discusses the significance of hair; it’s effect on confidence and the value of a January makeover. Says Matar “ Hair is part of your head- everything comes out of it, your brain, your confidence, your sensibilities, your personality. It is one of the first and most important things we notice when we meet a person. If your hair does not look good, even the best makeup and designer clothes are diminished. But when your hair is healthy, polished, and easy to manage and in synch with your lifestyle, good things happen. Your confidence rises, there’s a difference in the way you present yourself. When someone comes to my chair, I get inside their soul. I see not only their bone structure, but also their aura - their needs, personality, their aesthetic, where they are in life-hair therapy. This access, more than anything, accounts for my success. I bring to bear not only my skills but also my inspiration - from art, fashion, and architecture. I am thinking about energy and wellness. Everything is directed towards one goal: getting you to the best possible presentation of yourself - a different cut, a new colour, a style that suits you and is easy to maintain and that can change your life. January is a month for change and I encourage all my clients to work with me to build the confidence they need for the rest of the year.” Jie does not profess to know all the answers to achieving New Years resolutions. What he does know is that the confidence to get started is only a makeover away. In finding a suitable professional Jie suggests doing your research. Where is the salon located, who are the clients, who get’s mention in the media. “It’s important that the hairdresser you will entrust with your hair is experienced and interested in knowing you as a person. You may pay a little more but a pro is worth his weight in gold.” If you already have a hairdresser pick up the phone and set an appointment. Groundbreaking and avante-guard Jie has an elite and diverse clientele that include leaders in the fashion, entertainment and lifestyle industry. Recent clients include actresses Kim Cantrell, Jennifer Tilley and Canadian Idol Winner Ryan Malcolm. He has been called “The God of Hair” in Toronto Life and been a contributing stylist to the Canada’s Walk Of Fame, Toronto International Film Festival, CTV and CITYTV. The Moment to Break the Story:

To create an impact I would suggest we include an invitation to sample a special or signature lunch menu item, delivered from a Spring Rolls location. This will give the media a chance to experience all aspects of the Spring Rolls brand including delivery. The written items and kits would include the following:

1. Primary corporate/product/launch event specific press release announcing the official opening of the Sussex Center location at the end of August and highlighting key and minor messages as listed above.

2. Pictures of all Spring Roll locations including interior plans or pictures of the Sussex Center location

3. Pictures of Special and Signature menu items

Objective:

To develop a highly visible publicity program that will accomplish 1) Strong launch of the Spring Rolls Mississauga location to Canadian consumer and trade media 2) Create an ongoing editorial interest in the Spring Rolls brand and: 3) drive traffic to http://www.springrolls.ca/ and other Toronto GTA Spring Roll locations.

I will target the long lead Canadian publications and broadcast outlets first as the majority of monthly and bi-monthly media are currently working on their October issues. Efforts will then target shorter lead media in print and broadcast markets in the Toronto GTA, including news wires.
