On The Trend…
“Bigoudis are back”, states Jie The straight styles that you see in the magazines, on the runways and on television today are changing to reflect the new coiffure looks as seen on Nicole Kidman and Pamela Anderson. These Barbie looks are a throwback to the Bigoudi (curler) looks of the 60’s.
“Accessories, Accessories Accessories”, anything that is in, on or through your hair. Big dramatic hair clips, fashion forward hats or vivid colour are all considered musts, and make a great holiday fashion statement.
Formalize your hair with the Up-Do Of the Season. The “Uplift”- a lift specific to flattering your bone structure, clean lines and architecture works well with all party outfits. Wear it with a hat and make your party entrance one to remember!

Canada’s Premiere Hairdresser Presents “Hair Is Fashion” In Ready To Wear, Matinee and Soiree Looks for Spring and Summer 2006
TORONTO, October 19, 2005- Jie Matar, President and Creative Director of JIE, will unveil Hair is Fashion as the theme for his spring and summer hair collection and show tooking place on Thursday October 20th, 2005 located at MUZIK, 15 Saskatchewan Road, Exhibition Place.
Jie Matar on his vision for Spring and Summer styles:
“Inspiration for my collection comes from the positive images of spring change and renewal, the natural beauty of man and woman and my philosophy of less is more. I want to challenge old rules, old techniques and old trends that have become too routine and structured. I’m presenting a new statement that is beautiful, glamorous and natural. This means minimal cutting, styling and colour with more length, volume and weight. I will present this in three day to day looks that can be worn for all occasions.”
In the Ready to Wear look, Jie presented styles with tussled, contoured edges emphasizing volume and weight in chapeau like shapes. Makeup was romantic and feminine in bright pastels. Thien Le dresses, coats and suits finished the look in pink, taupe and black silk.
In the Matinee look Jie presented nouveau versatile styles. Hair was teased and stretched to create volume in the fringe and to highlight natural bone structure. Crystal clips were added for a touch of glamour. Makeup was elegant in warm coral and brown with an emphasis on lashes. Izzy Camilleri provided soft fluid outfits with tribal undertones in satin and chaiffon. The look was sexy, sexy, sexy!
In the final look Soiree, Jie was playful and theatrical. Hair was stretched, twisted and pinned in shapes that were both eccentric and artistic. Makeup was mysterious and sexy with black smokey cat eyes. A play on dark and light was shown with use of a little bling, bling crystals. Thien Le finished this look with long slinky black and purple party dresses in sequins and silk
Jie was proud to be part of Canada’s most recognized fashion event and was honoured to be working with leading Canadian design talent, the Fashion Design Council and L’Oreal Paris to promote Canadian Fashion worldwide.

GETTING IN SHAPE FOR SPRING? DON’T FORGET YOUR HAIR
Warmer months are fast approaching and many of you are heading to the gym to improve your healthy appearance and looks. Crucial to radiating zest and energy lies with the health and fitness of your hair. Issues surrounding damaged or thinning hair and hair care products strike a common theme in the beauty industry on follicle robustness. Concern for the health and fitness of your hair, according to Jie, is a fundamental service of good hairdressing.
Jie discusses healthy hair and shares some tips on good hair fitness.
Says Matar,
“Hair is a living and breathing organ requiring careful evaluation and management. Like other body parts, hair responds negatively or positively to the environment and lifestyle choices. Humidity, pollution, stress, food, alcohol, medications, colour, blow-drying and texturizing are all influential elements that effect healthy hair. Like a good workout regimen at the gym your hair requires a fitness plan as well. It starts with taking an inventory of your lifestyle, environment, routines and goals and setting a balanced plan of action to meet those goals. Plan to health, health to plan is a motto I follow with all my clients. Hair is always a work in progress. The internet, bookstores, friends, strangers and the beauty industry all provide resources for you to have intelligent and healthy hair.”
Jie tips for good hair health and fitness
A VISIT TO YOUR HAIRDRESSER MAY BE THE KEY TO KICK STARTING YOUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS.
Are you lacking the motivation to kick-start your New Years resolutions? The answer to building your confidence may lie with your hairdresser.
In an industry that understands change and confidence, January provides beauty specialists with an opportunity to make a difference. Most hairdressers know that a change in hairstyle or a subtle change in hair colour may be the confidence booster needed to set and achieve yearly goals. With the right professional, your January makeover may be as important as a trip to the therapist.
As President and Creative Director of Canada’s leading beauty destination, Jie Matar has built his leading status on his ability to deliver hair therapy and makeover artistry. January is a busy month at JIE as clients book their makeovers. Jie discusses the significance of hair; it’s effect on confidence and the value of a January makeover.
Says Matar
“ Hair is part of your head- everything comes out of it, your brain, your confidence, your sensibilities, your personality. It is one of the first and most important things we notice when we meet a person. If your hair does not look good, even the best makeup and designer clothes are diminished. But when your hair is healthy, polished, and easy to manage and in synch with your lifestyle, good things happen. Your confidence rises, there’s a difference in the way you present yourself. When someone comes to my chair, I get inside their soul. I see not only their bone structure, but also their aura - their needs, personality, their aesthetic, where they are in life-hair therapy. This access, more than anything, accounts for my success. I bring to bear not only my skills but also my inspiration - from art, fashion, and architecture. I am thinking about energy and wellness. Everything is directed towards one goal: getting you to the best possible presentation of yourself - a different cut, a new colour, a style that suits you and is easy to maintain and that can change your life. January is a month for change and I encourage all my clients to work with me to build the confidence they need for the rest of the year.”
Jie does not profess to know all the answers to achieving New Years resolutions. What he does know is that the confidence to get started is only a makeover away.
In finding a suitable professional Jie suggests doing your research. Where is the salon located, who are the clients, who get’s mention in the media. “It’s important that the hairdresser you will entrust with your hair is experienced and interested in knowing you as a person. You may pay a little more but a pro is worth his weight in gold.” If you already have a hairdresser pick up the phone and set an appointment.
Groundbreaking and avante-guard Jie has an elite and diverse clientele that include leaders in the fashion, entertainment and lifestyle industry. Recent clients include actresses Kim Cantrell, Jennifer Tilley and Canadian Idol Winner Ryan Malcolm. He has been called “The God of Hair” in Toronto Life and been a contributing stylist to the Canada’s Walk Of Fame, Toronto International Film Festival, CTV and CITYTV. Presently he styles all on air personalities for TORONTO 1 including respected anchors Ben Chin and Sarika Seghal.
Jie Matar will deliver advice on beauty, style and fashion on a bi-monthly basis.
